Multi-Function Lännen Tackles the Work for Electricity Company

It’s the first day of December as we hurtle towards the well-deserved Christmas break. Its that time of year when we all start dreaming of a “White Christmas” of course in the UK that rarely happens, however in Finland its almost always a certainty!

Multi-Function Lännen Tackles the Work for Electricity Company

It’s no big secret, Finland is a place very close to my heart, my big ambition is to be able to live there at some point before I shuffle off this mortal coil, whether I fulfil that dream remains to be seen, but in the meantime, I am always looking to visit as often as possible to catch up with my very best friends.

I would love to go back during the snowy season and experience the real feel of a Finnish winter, that thought led me to the video posted below from our friends at Lännen which features one of their 8700M multifunctional backhoe loaders at work in the winter.

According to the manufacturer, for decades previously it was common place for electricity companies to own their own machines to undertake the vital maintenance work, but in more recent times that situation has changed in favour of sub-contracting out the machine work.

However, one electricity company, Imatran Seudun Sähkönsiirto Oy, has bucked that trend and invested in their own Lännen 8700M.

Imatra is at the origin of Finnish electricity production, as the Imatrankoski power plant has been producing energy there since 1929. On the other hand, Imatran Seudun Sähkö, which was founded a year earlier, has handled electricity distribution in the Imatra area and nearby areas this entire time, and even though there is plenty of choice in today's world, Imatra's electricity customers remain largely loyal to the provider.

The addition of this one multi-function machine, that can perform so many different tasks can only be a positive move for the company, keeping such work “in-house” especially during the long winter months when snow and bitterly freezing temperatures can cause problems with electricity supplies, I can imagine.

Equally during the summer months there is always something to be done with the machine, effectively making it a valuable tool in the equipment arsenal all year round.

Enjoy the video and the wonderful winter scenery.
