New 95-Tonner Stands Guard at Komatsu in Bauma

The rumour mill had been in full swing prior to Bauma, with whispers of a new large excavator product launch at the show, and on the Sunday before the official opening I caught sight of the new PC950LC-11.

New 95-Tonner Stands Guard at Komatsu in Bauma

Weighing in at over 95-tonnes the Komatsu PC950LC-11 was making its European debut at Bauma in Munich, having already been launched in Japan where they are currently being manufactured.

The machine is the natural successor to the outgoing and hugely successful PC800-8 and features the latest Stage V emissions compliant Komatsu engine which offers a power output rating of 405kW (543HP). Komatsu have also installed the latest hydraulics and control technologies, which they claim will be able to deliver up to 50% more productivity and a 40% improvement in fuel efficiency when compared to the old model.

The combination of the new engine and optimised hydraulics using electronic spool control, working in unison is the key to the improved fuel efficiency, combined with a new independent slew system.

Operators using the PC950LC-11 will be able to select from 3 working modes; Economy, Power, and an all-new Power Plus mode. Maximum bucket capacity is rated at 6.50 cubic metres.

The fully integrated KomVision driver-assist system eliminates blind spots by providing the operator with a real-time view of the machine’s immediate surroundings, minimizing the risk of job site incidents, whilst catwalks on both sides of the machine offer safe and simple maintenance.

The latest Komtrax telematics and the Komatsu Care maintenance programme for customers are said to offer highest levels of fleet management and support, protect the machine against misuse, and ensure maximum efficiency and uptime.

It was while loitering around the PC950LC-11 later in the week that I had the pleasure of catching up with our Australian buddy Scott Lidster of Australian Earth Training, it was fantastic to finally meet the man in person!
