A new book is set to be published this month written by Rob Sinclair, an industry expert whose name has become synonymous with large hydraulic mining shovels.

O&K, Terex and Bucyrus Hydraulic Mining Shovels RH40-D to RH400 by Rob Sinclair

Rob worked at the famous Dortmund factory where O&K designed and built so many legendary machines such as the RH200, RH300 and the RH400, the largest serial production hydraulic shovel produced to date.

Published in paperback, this outstanding 96-page publication features 100 images, including many which have not been seen before, and in-depth informative text with technical details on the O&K, Terex and Bucyrus machines, which is sure to appeal to mining professionals and machinery enthusiasts alike.

Readers will gain invaluable insight into how the RH200’s main and swing hydraulic systems worked and on which machine serial number innovative technical changes such as CMS were first installed, as well as the benefits of TriPower, and why O&K favoured twin-engined operation and numerous on-site hourly production rates.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Like many of us, Rob Sinclair has loved excavators since the age of 4, in particular the Åkerman H-series and Caterpillar 200-series machines, as well as models from famous British manufacturers, from the past such as Hymac, and Priestman, and JCB who continue to produce machines to this day.

Now retired, he has worked for C. J. Pryor (the UK’s largest privately owned bulk earthmoving specialist), Volvo Construction Equipment and Caterpillar Global Mining (Dortmund). His favourite role at Dortmund was as service engineer for the RH200/6050, the Dortmund product and mining class shovel he admired most of all.

What I find fascinating about Rob’s work, is that he writes as an industry insider and fully understands what those of us reading the book want to know and discover, it offers groundbreaking insight into the world of these iconic large hydraulic mining shovels.

The 234 x 165 mm book is published by Amberley Publishing and will retail at £15.99. It will also be available in Kindle, Kobo and iBook formats.
