Popular Dig Day Returns

Vincent Tractors & Plant the dealers for Kubota in Cornwall & Cornwall held their latest Dig Day event at its spiritual home of Gnome World near Newquay last week, and we popped down for a look.

Popular Dig Day Returns

The Vincent Tractors & Plant Dig Day is always a well-attended, informal local event in the South West and was making a welcome return for the first time since the pandemic. For me personally, it’s always a nice event to catch up with well-known local industry figures.

Things have changed a bit since the last Dig Day, with Kubota UK no longer running a demo fleet, the emphasis is put on the dealer to provide machines on for the demo, this means that there are not as many Kubota machines available to try, but there was a decent enough spread for the day.

It’s nice to be able to get “hands on” with some of the latest machines from Kubota. The star of the show was undoubtably the new KX085-5 which we first test drove at the launch event in Oxfordshire at the tail end of last year, and was featured as the cover story in the August edition of Earthmovers Magazine.

Local contractor and once a Kubota owner himself, Graham Sandercock, is better known these days for his Mecalac machines, but he still has a lot of affection for the Kubota brand. Graham took the opportunity to try out the latest 8-tonner and was suitably impressed with the machine, with the refinements and spaciousness in the cab getting high praise in addition to the smoothness of the hydraulics and overall power.

I also took the opportunity to get reunited with the 6-tonne class KX060-5 a fantastic little machine to operate and one I thoroughly enjoyed spending some time in the seat with once more.

Also of interest was the KX027-4 which was presented fitted with an Engcon “Plug & Play” tiltrotator which is a simpler solution for those wanting to invest in a tiltrotator, as it plumbs into the machines existing auxiliary hydraulic lines.

It was also good to finally meet up with another local contractor Martin Stenlake who had been trying out the KX027-4 and Engcon combo.

Experts from Engcon and iDig were on hand to offer advice on their product offerings too.

In addition to the Kubota products, Vincents also displayed compaction equipment from Dynapac, including the CA3500D single drum self-propelled vibratory roller.

Also displayed was the impressive Dynapac SD1800W paving machine.

There were also some examples from the Nugent range of trailers including this 3500kg plant trailer model an ideal choice for legal towing of mini excavators and associated plant & machinery.

If you missed the Cornwall dig day, Vincent’s are holding another one in Devon this coming Friday 26th April at Marley Head Timber & Biomass, Webland Lane, Marley Head TQ10 9LT from 12:00-18.30.
