“Real Service” JCB Archive Footage

As a nice #ThrowbackThursday feature, I wanted to share this latest archive clip from our good friends at JCB.

“Real Service” JCB Archive Footage

I absolutely love these old promotional videos from the famous Staffordshire based manufacturer, as they always bring back such wonderful memories from my childhood.

In this latest clip that they have retrieved from 1976, we enjoy a journey with a service engineer who is on a call out to a 3CII that has broken down.

This instantly brought back memories of instances when my late fathers 3CII that he used to operate for Marsh Plant Hire broke down while he was working on the M27 motorway project between Southampton and Portsmouth.

Obviously in those days there were no mobile phones, and as featured in this clip, it meant a trip out to find a phone box to make that all important phone call to the local JCB dealer, who at the time was either F. English or Berkeley JCB.

We jumped in dad’s car, which at the time was a Mk3 Cortina in Daytona Yellow, registration number BTR 450K, which he had purchased to match the yellow of his JCB! Quite spooky to think I am now driving a yellow car too!

Anyway, the call was made and it wasn’t long before the engineer arrived in one of those iconic liveried vans and had us up and running again, I’ll never forget that day, as the engineer gave me a JCB logo pin badge, which I treasured for many years after.

Right, enough of my waffling on, lets enjoy the footage below, and enjoy a trip back in time to simpler and happier days, when engineers turned up in red overalls complete with a shirt and tie underneath! .
