Scraper and Pusher Mis-Match

Came across this video over the weekend and thought I would pop it on the blog for all the old scraper hands.

Scraper and Pusher Mis-Match

American You Tube sensation Chris Guins aka LetsDig18 posted this video back in 2017, when he visited a site where the company was running some ageing twin engined Terex TS14 motor scrapers. Now we know that the 14 cubic-yard, (20 cubic yard heaped) capacity, Terex motor scrapers powered by the screaming Detroit Diesel engines, were not well liked by many of the old school muckshifters, but I guess all you can say is that they got the job done!

However, what struck me in this video is the rather inadequate dozer deployed to assist with the push loading. The Caterpillar D5G XL is far too small for this job and looks dwarfed by the “Green Lizards” as the Terex scrapers were affectionately known. I would have thought a minimum of a D6 or D7 would have been more favourable, but either way, they managed to get the job done with the small tractor, although it’s having to work extra hard and at what cost?

It will be interesting to hear what the scraper experts have to say about this one.

The Digger Man Blog would like to thank Chris Guins for the share of this material.
