Scrapers for Dummies

Came across another amazing video from the Dirtworld Maestro Aaron Witt over the weekend and just had to share it here on the Digger Man Blog.

The mighty motor scraper, once the king of many a motorway job and earthmoving project in the UK, slipped out of favour here as contractors adopted the perceived cheaper hydraulic excavator and articulated hauler combo for major earthworks.

There has been some slight resurgence in recent years as a number of high-profile scraper owners with many years of experience in the muckshifting game, have demonstrated that for speed and efficiency, there really is nothing better than motor scrapers.

I used to love watching these giants of the earthmoving game in action on motorway projects with my late father back in the day, but I have been quite surprised to find that many younger operatives today, know nothing about scrapers or what can be achieved by them.

So, I was delighted to see this video from Aaron pop up as a suggestion on my You Tube account over the weekend. The video was filmed in Southern California, often refereed to as a hotbed for scraper activity due to its extremely favourable soil conditions.

As you will find out in the video below, contractor Sukut, runs the largest fleet of motor scrapers anywhere in the world, this presents a great opportunity for those who know very little about these awesome machines, to find out more.
