Silence is Golden with Volvo’s ECR25 Electric

We love a quirky advertising video here on the Digger Man Blog and this one from Volvo is both a classy production and humorous too.

Silence is Golden with Volvo’s ECR25 Electric

Like most manufacturers these days, Volvo are pursuing the electric battery powered compact equipment route. The Swedish manufacturer has been doing a lot of work behinds the scenes with numerous electric powered prototypes having been revealed. I caught my first glimpse of the ECR25 Electric in the metal at Bauma 2019, the Bavarian machinery fest in Munich.

These machines are being rolled out at different times in sales regions around the world, and the electric models are sure to appeal to loyal Volvo customers looking to add an electric option to their fleets.

In line with other manufacturers, Volvo say that the ECR25’s batteries can store enough electric energy to power the machine for a working day up to eight hours, in applications where they are not working continuously such as utility work.

On-board chargers enable overnight charging adaptable to conventional household electrical systems. In addition, an off-board fast charger can be used with a three-phase outlet. With the fast-charge options, the ECR25 can be at 80% power within one hour.

Users get all of these benefits without sacrificing performance. The electric ECR25 has comparable performance levels to its conventional diesel equivalents, including a digging depth of 9 ft. and breakout force of 5,020 lbf.

I’m looking forward to getting “hands on” with one of these ECR25 Electric’s in the not-too-distant future, but in the meantime lets checkout the video I mentioned earlier from Volvo, I’m sure you will agree, it’s a class act!
