SL Excavations puts the Spin into Rototilt at ConExpo-Con/Agg

One of the standout machines on display at last week’s ConExpo-Con/Agg show was Steve Lafontaine’s stunning black Liebherr R 926 Compact hydraulic excavator.

Steve Lafontaine’s business SL Excavations Inc who are based in Ontario, Canada has been a long-term adopter of the tiltrotator concept and indeed featured on this blog back in 2021, with his conventional tailswing Liebherr R 924 and his then newly delivered R 926 Compact both of which were equipped with Rototilt units.

As a great ambassador for the brand in Canada, it came as no surprise to me to see that his machine was chosen as the demo unit for the Rototilt North America booth at ConExpo-Con/Agg the triennial construction machinery fest.

The Compact Liebherr is fitted with Rototilt’s RC6 tiltrotator which is designed to fit machines ranging from 15-24 tonnes. Built for strength the RC6 is capable of handling breakout forces of up to 225 kNm. Smooth operation of all functions is ensured thanks to Rototilt’s RC System of proportional control.

The unit also features Rototilt’s QuickChange system, enabling fast changing of hydraulic attachments instantly from the seat of the cab. These quick-change style systems are an absolute game changer for anyone in the industry, eliminating down time for manual connection and ensuring that the right tool for the job is always selected.

Steve wasn’t actually running the machine on the demo plot but Rototilt supplied a demo operator for the duration of the show, who is seen in the video below in action.
