Slip sliding away

Here is another accident video that has been doing the rounds on the myriad of Facebook plant pages that are now running on the social media giant’s platform. I figured it deserved a spot here on the Digger Man Blog.

This Italian built Casagrande drilling machine which weighs around 40 tonnes, was being unloaded from a low loader over the back ramps, on what at first glimpse appears to be flat ground. However as the machine comes over the top the old curse of the steel tracks on a steel body strikes again with devastating effect, as the virtually brand new machine topples to the right. The operator attempts to get out rather than stay put in the cab and is almost certain to have suffered some serious injury as he first lands hard on the track and eventually on the ground below.   Of course hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I’m sure this manoeuvre could have had a far happier and less costly outcome if a bit more thought had gone into to unloading position of the trailer.
