Smart excavator looks familiar

I am always looking for something a bit different to post on the blog and just recently I was surfing the net in search of new topics when I came across another Turkish built machine, the Smart i8.

It would appear that Smart is Makinalari is another manufacturer based in the Turkish city of Izmir, which coincidentally is also home to one of Hidromek’s backhoe loader factories. This stylish looking machine looks like a cross between a 6 – 7 tonne mini excavator and a skid steer loader and features a similar track set up and boom & arm configuration to a well-known French manufacturer.

The material is over a year old and details are sketchy but it would appear that the Smart i8 is powered by a 52.1kw 4 cylinder Yanmar 4TNV98 engine which is only Tier 3A rated so would not be emissions compliant for the European market. It will be interesting to see if these machines continue to develop and eventually arrive in the UK market. Check out this promotional video from Smart.
