Splitter!

Having recently re-invested in a log burner at Digger Towers, I was surfing the net last week to look for easier ways to generate decent sized logs without the need for swinging the big axe! I was amazed to see this handy unit being demonstrated on You Tube.

Anyone who has chopped up logs will know its hard work. Admittedly it could be seen as a good way of keeping fit, offering a great way to get rid of those extra pounds we have all put on during the recent festive period of over indulgence. But in today’s ever more mechanized world attachments are out there to make all our lives easier. Our current mountain of logs was processed by a gang of 3 men armed with chainsaws and a crude bench splitter, but with this attachment from Finnish company Ramec Y Raunisto Oy the whole operation can be performed by one man and an excavator.   The Ramec 520 firewood processor has an operating weight of 1500kgs and can handle timber with a maximum diameter of 520mm (20 inches) maximum length of 12-14m (36-40ft) and offers a firewood length adjustment ranging from 20cm-100cm (8-25 inches). I think you will agree it’s an impressive piece of kit, but I wonder if they make one to suit a smaller mini excavator? Now that would save me a lot of work!
