Sunward mini excavators epic journey in Finland: Blog Re-visited

With the interest in the latest Chinese excavators to hit the UK market creating something of a buzz, I thought it would be a good time to take a look back at this blog post I wrote on a previous host in 2010.

You may recall we reported on Jukka Mutanen's month long attempt to track a Chinese Sunward SWE17B mini excavator for 1000 kilometres from Hanko in the south of Finland to Kuusamo in the north east of Finland. Well at 6pm on the 29th June 2010 Jukka crossed the finnish line in front of a massive crowd and assembled media. Such was the coverage of this event not only in Finland but also internationally Jukka has become something of a celebrity, this fact was further endorsed by many members of the crowd trying to get his autograph! Jukka was greeted on the completion of his record breaking attempt by the president of Sunward, Mr He Qinghua, and many Finnish government officials including member of parliament Mr Tuomo Hanninen and the president of the Kuusamo district committee Mr Matti Heikkila. Talking about his epic journey during which time he drove around 40 kilometres everyday Jukka said "I experienced no difficulties with the machine whatsoever, transmission, hydraulics and tracks all performed well, the only wear that has been noticed is around 3 millimetres on the tracks" Good friend of the Digger Blog, Finnish plant journalist Olli Paivio told us that Jukka was planning more crazy stunts but was keeping them under wraps for now.....we are still waiting to see what he will do next!  Thanks to Olli Paivio for supplying photos. If you are interested in trying out a Sunward machine, Sunward UK are holding a series of Demo Days next week 12th-14th November, why not register to attend by clicking on this link.
