“Surfs up dude” - let’s go check out the D8

Martin Grant who lives in Sydney, Australia, has shared some great photos with us that he shot around 10 years ago on the world famous Bondi Beach.

Martin who originally hails from New Zealand is an expert photographer and also a contributor to a number of heavy haulage magazines Down Under. He is often spotted wandering around the busy suburbs of Sydney snapping shots of cranes, trucks and heavy equipment, the likes of which we would rarely see in UK cities. Every now and then the beach at Bondi ends up in need of essential maintenance, the ravages of Mother Nature in the form of high tides and winds forces a build-up of the sand on the back wall. This results in the beach getting a bit steep at which point the local authorities deploy a dozer to push the sand back down to the sea. The theory behind this is that once down to a reasonable level with the dozer the sea then takes over the job, levelling the sand in a more natural way. What I love about these photos is the way surfers are wandering about as the operator on the Cat D8N is going about his business. Could you imagine that happening today? The risk assessment would be a mile long! We thank Martin for sharing these shots with us here on the Digger Man Blog.
