Takeuchi’s Big Duck Remembered #ThrowbackThursday

During the 2010 edition of the Bavarian machinery fest that is Bauma, Japanese manufacturer Takeuchi showcased a 15-tonne class wheeled excavator.

Takeuchi’s Big Duck Remembered #ThrowbackThursday

As far as I know this machine was only manufactured from 2010 until 2015 and during that production period, a total of 208 examples were produced, my understanding is that none of them ever made it to the UK. However, a number of these machines did make it into the Central European market and like all Takeuchi machines were greatly received by owners and end users alike.

Fitted with the European favoured two-piece boom as standard, the TB1160W was powered by a 4-cylinder Isuzu AI 4JJ1X model diesel engine, offering a power output rating of 95kw. The machine had a maximum reach at ground level of 8m, and a maximum digging depth of 6m.

Having witnessed the popularity of Takeuchi’s TB295W, TB395W, and the more recently introduced 7-tonne class TB370W plus the larger tracked variants, TB2150 and TB2150R models, it’s surprising that this wheeled weight class was not continued in the line-up.

Maybe in the future Takeuchi will look at relaunching an updated model, which I think would be a great idea.

For now, though, lets checkout this video I found on the internet of a TB1160W being put through its paces.
