The Whitnell Scrapers Ride Again
Essex based earthmoving legend, and larger than life character Lionel Whitnell, has got his scrapers out once again this time working on a project in Salisbury.
Our roving plant reporter friends over at Awesome Earthmovers were out once again to capture the two Cat 621E single engine scrapers which are 1991 models and were originally built in Caterpillar’s Brazilian facility, which according to Lionel himself were the best models from that era.
The pair of machines, which Lionel sourced in France, have undergone a lot of work mechanically and been modified with air conditioning units, some that early stage work I saw personally during a visit to Lionel’s premises in Colchester back in late 2019, which you can read about by following this link.
With scrapers making something of a mini comeback in the UK at the moment with HS2 and other large projects looking keen to use them once more, its great to see that these older models can still do a cracking job when the conditions are right. There simply is no better way to shift earth than with a fleet of scrapers.
Anyway, without further ado, watch and listen to the awesome soundtrack of real Caterpillar scraper diesel power in action below.
Big thanks to Awesome Earthmovers for the share.
