Volvo Excavator Rises to the Ping Pong Challenge

Quirky and fun machinery challenge videos have always been popular here on the Digger Man Blog over the years, and so its with great pleasure that I present this latest fun offering from the team at Volvo Construction Equipment.

As part of their Excavators for any Challenge series, Volvo Construction Equipment’s Chinese colleagues pitted one of their latest EC220 Heavy Duty hydraulic excavator models against one of Sweden’s top flight professional table tennis stars Truls Möregårdh, who coincidentally is also Sweden's youngest ever table tennis champion.

Table tennis is an incredibly popular sport in China, and the country won its first World Championship as far back as 1959. Over the years China has won 28 out of a possible 32 gold medals at the Olympic Games since table-tennis was introduced as an Olympic sport. It is said that there are in excess of 100 million players of the sport in China, and there are 40,000 professional players, all paid by the government to practice full time!

So, it was fitting to pit this EC220 HD machine which I believe is aimed at the Asian market, into this table tennis challenge, armed with its own oversized bat mounted on the tiltrotator.
