Volvo’s appealing EC220E

Another Volvo excavator I am looking forward to seeing at Intermat this coming April, is the latest upgrade to the company’s 22 tonne class machine the EC220E.

Having spent a week on a Volvo EC220D back in 2013 I must say I was very impressed with the machine in every aspect. Smooth to operate, easy to grade with and a cab interior second to none, I really could not find any fault with it in fact I was gutted when the demonstrator machine was taken away and I had to return to the regular mount at the time. Well now just in time for the tri-annual machine fest in Paris, Volvo has launched the new EC220E. According to Volvo this new model will offer best in class fuel efficiency, but with increased power from its 6 cylinder Tier 4 Stage IV engine which offers a power output rating of 128kw (174hp). The machine also features Volvo’s Human Machine Interface (HMI) all machine interfaces, including joysticks, keypad, panel and a new larger LCD monitor, are ergonomically designed for optimum control and efficiency, resulting in increased productivity and increased comfort for the operator during long working shifts.
