What’s your Ultimate Ride

Our friends over at Diggers & Dozers have recently launched a new series of podcasts called What’s My Ride, where they talk openly and frankly to operators about a variety of topics to do with their day to day lives in the industry, one of the questions that comes up is, If you could operate any machine in the world, what would it be?

What’s your Ultimate Ride

The question certainly got me thinking, I mean everyone would like a pop at a massive excavator, right? For me, my initial thought was to opt for what is probably the most famous large-scale hydraulic mining excavator the mighty Liebherr R 9800, an 800-tonne machine with a power output rating of 4000hp and a standard bucket capacity of 42 cubic metres its an impressive piece of kit!

However, when I listened to the podcast featuring Pamela Evans aka The Digger Lady, I noticed she had chosen that machine for her ultimate choice. With that in mind I decided to change my mind and opt for a spin on the Cat 6040, at just 400 tonnes its not quite in the same league, but still an impressive machine!

I recalled watching one of Pushysix’s videos where he presents an in the cab view from his visit to Caterpillar’s tinaja hills demonstration & learning centre in the Arizona desert, where he took to the controls of a 6040, one of Cat’s German built O&K inspired excavators. It would sure be fun to spend some time on one of these, checkout the video below, as Scott Colclough aka Pushysix gets to grips with the big Cat.

So, what would be your ultimate heavy equipment ride? Let us know in the comments section on our social media channels!
