Always Digging to the rescue

In the hands of unexperienced people and when not taken seriously, mini excavator’s, by their very nature can be lethal bits of equipment and by the look of this incident and the resulting mayhem it nearly was deadly! The customer of another local plant hire firm had been using the 1.5 tonne class KX015-4 machine on made up ground as he dug out and threw the material behind himself and over the side where there was a significant drop away in the original ground, in what looked like a recipe for disaster and which it proved to be. From on site investigations it would appear that the individual using the machine had swung the offset arm as far as it would go to the right-hand side and outstretched the arm with a full 600mm bucket, which on a machine which does not have expandable tracks, was a stretch too far! The plant hire company, who Neil works closely with from time to time, contacted him to come out and offer his wealth of experience on how to recover the machine. A larger Kubota KX61-3 mini excavator was brought in to conduct the recovery operated by Neil. The small machine was put back on its feet having been pulled upright using a series of wire strops which had to be used due to poor access to the back of the property. I’m very happy to report that it was a very lucky escape for the person on the controls, as it could quite easily been a lot worse. The moral of this story is, if unsure about you're capabilities, always get a professional in to do the job, these diggers are not toys. The Digger Man Blog would like to thank Neil for sharing these photos with us.
