Big Komatsu In-Cab Footage

Family-owned business Banks Mining took delivery of its first Komatsu PC3000-6 mining shovel back in 2017 when it was put to work at the Shotton surface mining operation in Northumberland, a project which had first started back in 2008 and is now rapidly coming to an end.

The 265-tonne PC3000-6 is now engaged in the final restoration works on the site and according to my Earthmovers Magazine colleague, David Wylie, who has been a regular visitor to the mining operation over the years, the machine, which is equipped with a 16 cubic metre bucket, is loading out Komatsu HD785-7 rigid dumptruck’s in a three-pass operation at a rate of 1100 cubic metres per hour, which is impressive going.

The big Komatsu is part of an earthmoving fleet working on the final throws of this of this project, the likes of which we may never see again in this country, so I’m delighted to share this video from Freddie Anthony of Diggers and Dozers who gained some exclusive access himself to see the giant beast in action.
