Bobcat Powers Up with the All-Electric T7X

Bobcat Powers Up with the All-Electric T7X

The innovative concept machine was revealed earlier this year and will initially only be available in the North American market. This was the machines first appearance anywhere in Europe, but according to a Bobcat spokesman the aim is to launch it into the European market in 2023.

The machine has been designed to address emission and noise reduction goals within the Bobcat company. Power for the T7X comes from a 62kW lithium-ion battery, which is rated for 2,000 cycles. Working time is currently only around 4 hours of continuous work, but a built-in power management system works to preserve battery life by sensing when loads decrease and backing off the power, which helps to increase run time.

Battery technology is improving all the time of course, and one would hope by the time this machine hits the European market the longevity of the battery life will be further enhanced. It was suggested that working in the machines eco mode, would help to save battery life further. Considering it takes 10-hours to fully recharge it’s something worth doing.

This machine doesn’t use hydraulics or need any fluids except for one litre of coolant. The conventional hydraulic system has been replaced by electric drive systems.

As mentioned earlier, I spent some very brief time in the seat, and was very impressed by the machines speed, power and responsiveness of the controls. The instant level of power was something to behold, and the machines performance certainly brought a smile to my face!

When the opportunity arises after, or in the run up to its launch in Europe, I hope to spend a longer operating experience in one for a full “First Drive” report in Earthmovers Magazine.

Checkout our video of the machine in action, operated by one of the Bobcat Innovation Team who have been involved in the design work and development of the T7X.
