Canadian plant man gets into JCB at SIMAQ 2018 in Quebec

Guillaume, who is also a regular subscriber to Earthmovers Magazine, has a keen interest in the European approach to excavation, especially from the Scandinavian perspective. This show also gave Guillaume his first chance to take a close look around the JCB Hydradig, in fact the first example to be seen in Quebec Province. Guillaume said, “I spoke with the product specialist and he told me that they already had 3 Hydradig sold here. It was a great pleasure to take a good walk around of this excellent urban concept machine after reading about it in the Earthmovers test drive and review in previous months!”. The local JCB, Claas and Link Belt dealer, Bossé & Frères had assembled an impressive display of JCB machines ranging from the latest Fastrac tractor, to articulated agricultural telehandlers and loading shovels to JS range excavators which were represented by a JS160. Guillaume said, “I spoke with the JCB product specialist, I told him we need to fit a tiltrotator to the Hydradig but he just laughed and said sadly it's not common in our part of the world, but maybe one day!”, a sure sign that they still have some catching up to do with modern day technology in Canada in terms of excavation equipment. Guillaume also had the opportunity to check out other examples from the JCB range including compact loaders, the innovative Teleskid skid steer loader and mini excavators “It was a delight to see the good JCB machines for their unique design from the ground up and to spend some time in the luxurious cabs that impressed me a lot” said Guillaume. Also, on display were three examples from the Link-Belt range of excavators, the Japanese Sumitomo built machines that we see in the UK under the Case banner. On show were the 8-tonne class 85x4, the 14-tonne class 145x4 and seen below with Guillame, the 35-tonne class 350x4 which was displayed outside in the snow. Doosan machines were represented by a DX180-5, along with examples from the Bobcat range of mini excavators and skid steer loaders. Naturally being an agricultural based event, there were a lot of big powerful tractors on show from the likes of John Deere, Fendt, Case, Massey Ferguson, Deutz, New Holland and other less well-known brands. Summarizing Guillaume said, “It was great to take a deep look at the European conception and technology up here available and aside from the construction industry, big agricultural equipment is always interesting to see”. The Digger Man Blog would like to thank Guillaume for sharing his photos and thoughts on the show and the machines on display.
