Classic plant joins the ScotPlant party

Everyone loves an old Cat, but incredibly this Caterpillar 941B was probably the youngest of the classics on display, dating from around 1974. No idea who the owner of this machine is, but they have done a great job of restoring the machine. Next up is this fantastic example of a rare Hymac 270 backhoe loader. The 270 was the smallest machine in the Hymac backhoe loader range, which was formerly known as Whitlock before that business was taken over by Hymac in 1972. These machines continued to be produced until 1984 during which time according to Jeremy Rowlands excellent publication The Illustrated History of Hymac, 2607 machines were built. Talking of Whitlock, the other and probably oldest machine restoration on display was this fine example of a “Dinkum Digger”. There was not much detail on this machine, but I suspect it is of early 1960’s vintage. The Whitlock Company was based in Great Yeldham in Essex but the Dinkum Digger was actually the invention of a Scotsman, Robert Ewan who hailed from Fife. All credit must go to those individuals who have clearly put in many hours and a fair amount of money to return these machines to their former glory.
