Cornish Crowds Turnout as the Royal Cornwall Show Returns (Part One)

For two the past two years the show has been greatly missed, and it was a pure delight to see so many visitors attending, on what turned out, after a rather grey start, to be a gloriously sunny second day when I popped down for my regular look around the plant and machinery trade stands.

As per usual my first port of call was to see those fine folks on the CBL stand, where it was great to catch up with John Elliott and the team for an early morning coffee and a chat. It had been a while so there was plenty to discuss, even more so with all the madness that is currently going on in the world! But once we had put the world to rights, it was time top take a look at the assembled kit, from the likes of Takeuchi, Thwaites and Bomag of which CBL are main dealers.

Its always a delight to see one of Steve Hoskin Construction’s machines on the stand, especially when they feature a custom paint job like this Takeuchi TB260, with the familiar blue livery that has become the companies trade mark over the years.

Representing Thwaites, CBL brought along a 1-tonne High Tip model and a 9-tonne forward tip model which had been sold to Liskeard based Champion Groundworks.

Emblazoned with the MJL Group logo was a nice single drum roller in the form of a Bomag BW177DH, and this was not the only single drum roller sporting MJL livery on display at the show, but more on that in part two of this post.

It was a delight to see the latest Takeuchi tracked dumper variant, the TCR50-2 which apparently had been sold off the stand which was good to hear.

I then headed down to the Kellands Plant Sales stand, which was once again in its historical position on the showground. The stand was packed out with customers machines, and visitors were greeted onto the stand by an arch created by a new Doosan DX255LC-7 which will be heading to Champion Groundworks straight after the show.

While on the stand it was great to catch up with Mike James of Leica and Lee Knowles of One Point Survey who pointed out a number of machines on the stand that are now featuring Leica Machine Control.

Right next to us was our old mate Courtney King’s latest machine upgrade with a Doosan DX140LCR-7 complete with full Engcon tiltrotator system.

Truro Tractors are continuing to make great progress in getting SANY excavators out through the door in Cornwall, and they had a lot of machines on display with customers signage on them.

Later on in the day, I met up with our old friend Harold Thomas, who has purchased a SANY SY75C model which was on display on the stand.

We both agreed that the machine looks a bit dated in design, but true to form Harold said “It is but it will still do the job, and at a price that I’d be mad to ignore”. Fair comment I thought.

Lookout for part two of this blog post coming along on Wednesday.
