Cornish plant memories (Part One)

Graham acquired these photos taken in the 1970’s from the son of an old plant legend in Cornwall called Dave Hicks who sadly passed away several years ago, his son has kindly given us permission to post these on the Digger Man Blog for all to see. The first shot shows Bazeley’s Guy tractor unit pulling out with a large Poclain excavator on the back. In this next shot it looks like delivery day for the company’s brand new JCB 7B hydraulic excavator, looking shiny and new in its resplendent JCB yellow and red paintwork, the machine was shortly to be involved in a very sticky situation on one of the Cornish moors, but more on that in the next post! In this shot we see the brand new JCB 7B being taken off “over the side” as was the popular way of unloading in those days before the arrival of trailers with easy drop ramps and the like. Something different now, with what appears to be a John Deere crawler loader on board, possibly a JD450 model. With the snow on the ground I’m sure the operator would have appreciated the cab that has been fitted! Finally, in this batch, I’m guessing here as there is no definite information available, but it looks like the Bazeley low loader may have been picking up this German built Faun dumptruck from the docks somewhere, possibly Southampton, hopefully someone will know the answer. Look out for more of these next week with some sticky action for the JCB’s.
