Digger set for a Hybrid experience

Hybrid is the current buzz word in the construction machinery world, with most major manufacturers tentatively taking steps into this area of the market. Komatsu, however, have been at the forefront of this kind of technology for many years now, with a large number of its Hybrid offerings hard at work around the world. So far I have had little to do with the Hybrid machines, apart from seeing them displayed statically at the various plant shows I attend, so I am quite excited at the prospect of getting behind the controls of one, courtesy of our UK dealership Marubeni-Komatsu, who displayed the model at Plantworx earlier this year. Two of the UK’s long established and most respected plant and machinery journalists, Geoff Ashcroft & Dan Gilkes, got to grips with the HB215LC at the Komatsu test drive facility to the rear of the factory in Birtley earlier this year, and produced this excellent video about their experiences at the controls.
As Dan says in his summary, this is the future of excavator technology.
