Digger's Bauma Highlights (Part Seven) Sany

Sany have big plans going forward and the stand was ram packed with its products, so much so it was tricky to get great photos, which in all fairness is often the case at these trade shows. There were some impressive machines on display like the 50-tonne class SY500H hydraulic excavator. This machine is currently the second largest excavator in the Sany construction line up weighing in at 50,100kgs, power comes from a Cummins QSB12 engine which is Tier 4 Final emissions compliant and offers a power output rating of 298kw (400hp) @2,100rpm. TDL Equipment are bringing in an SY500H demonstrator following the success of the machine in the French and German markets and according to Andrew there are a number of customers interested in trying out the machine. As a mark of confidence in its products, Sany offer a 10,000 hour, 5 year warranty on the boom, stick and chassis of their excavators. Sany also brought two new compact radius models to the Bavarian machinery party, a new prototype 8-tonne offering the SY80U, which is powered by a Stage 5 emissions compliant Yanmar engine. They also revealed a brand new 14/15 tonne class model the SY155U which has been specifically designed for the European market, this model features a well proven Japanese components including an Isuzu engine and Kawasaki hydraulics. It certainly looked like a very smart machine and a lot of improvements have been made to the cab interiors on these models. One thing nobody can deny is the fact that the Chinese are keen to learn and to improve on the design and quality of their products, especially for the European market where end users are a bit more particular about what they want in a modern-day piece of equipment. One thing the guys had picked up on was my comment about the position of some of the switches and controls and the fact that some of them are hidden or in an awkward place on the current SY26U, I was only to happy to point out what I meant and it was really interesting to talk to them as they enthusiastically took down notes and took photos for reference of improvements, I’m confident that when future models come out these issues will have been addressed. Sany, whose motto was Quality Changes the World had no dancing diggers this time around but they did have dancing girls who were only too happy to have their photos taken with the equipment on display, visitors to the stand will have probably left with the “Sany Song” still ringing in their ears as it was played a lot during the regular dancing routines at the front stage.
