Diggers Hillhead 2022 Highlights: SMT GB/ Volvo CE
The largest Volvo CE items on display this time around were the 75-tonne class EC750EL hydraulic excavator which was sporting the livery of L Lynch Plant Hire. The machine had its mass excavation bucket draped in the high sided butt of a new A45G articulated hauler which is destined for Blackwell Earthmoving.
The second largest in the manufacturers excavator range, the EC750EL is powered by Volvo’s in-house built Stage V emissions compliant D16J 6-cylinder diesel engine producing a power output of 393kW (534hp) and has an operating weight ranging between 72.8 – 74.9 tonnes
For those that are into wheeled loaders, SMT GB also showcased this L110H model which was sporting an ULRICH High-Tip bucket.
Volvo are really making waves in the material handling sector and the recently launched EW200E Material Handler, which we first saw in the metal at the Recycle Live show last year, was on stand at Hillhead, sporting a Prodem selector grab from BPH Attachments.
It was also a pleasure for me personally to meet up on the stand with Shane Kroeker who is the Director of Strategic Initiatives at K-Tec Earthmovers Inc the scraper manufacturers, we had plenty to talk about and of course, with Shane being a Canadian, our chat eventually came around to my other long term passion, ice hockey!
I’m definitely looking forward to finding out more in due course, and who knows, maybe even a trip over to Canada to check out some heavy earthmoving projects, and some hockey!
