Digger’s weekly social media round up #21

Digger Man Blog regular Jason Snaith got all nostalgic earlier this week when he posted a photo of his Cat dozer that he was operating for Pryors back in the day. This prompted a flurry of replies to the thread with others reminiscing of their time with the once famous earthmoving outfit. Check out the thread here. 15107371_10211569034365870_8115099507600580914_n The weather has been a hot topic of conversation this week on the DMB Facebook page as once again the UK was pounded with heavy rain for the best part of the week. Chris Purton posted a series of photos that reminded me of the challenge we all face on sites in this country, flooded sites, mud and slop! From my experience there is always a request from management in the offices to clear up the mess and the more you move it the worse it gets! We have all been there I’m sure, check out Chris’s photos and join the debate here. 15179166_1391499284218313_2512825641966991481_n Another topic that always gets readers fired up on the Digger Man Blog is the clean cab, dirty cab debate. This week Patrick McMullan kicked it off again by showing photos of his nice clean cab which he had just valeted. People generally seem to fall into one of two categories on this topic, you are either a Howard Hughes type “cleany” who would have a coronary if you spotted a speck of dust on your dash, or you are a “dirty” who sees it as an affront to your manliness to be seen cleaning your cab or feels you are not a real worker unless the cab is filthy! There seems very little middle ground on this topic and it always amuses me to read the comments. If you missed this thread catch up with it here. 15203146_1150183825089740_6236629138424198679_n As a fan of all the nostalgic stuff myself I was delighted to see Mark Wemyss post which featured a shot of two classic machines which are preserved for future generations to see on display outside a business in the North of Scotland. The machines on display are a Ruston Bucyrus 22RB in face shovel configuration and a Caterpillar 951 traxcavator. You can catch up with the thread here. 15135849_1232042666852561_6905857322482133554_n Adam Sinfield posed the question, who did the modifications on this machine? The machine in question was Eddie Warreners stunning Kubota KX080-4 specialist midi excavator which has been featured in Earthmovers Magazine on a number of occasions and was in fact modified by conversion and tilt-rotator guru John Craig of JCCEngcon. This thread prompted a good response from readers and with a quick glance on Twitter we noticed the tilt-rotator gods were even discussing our page which can only be a good thing for spreading the gospel. If you missed the thread, catch up with it here. 15085694_10154367495444678_2229370128534550065_n Anybody else dislike unloading these poxy things? Wrote Paul Newman referring to his photo of a pallet load of clay pipes sat on the forks attached to his JCB JS excavator.  Excavator forks can be useful on sites but can also be challenging when moving around with loads like this, you need to be on your guard at all times and adopt a gently as she goes approach when tracking! Why not share your thoughts on them by joining the debate here. 15123120_749958011819238_3989987286429021040_o Finally this week my long term Swedish forum friend and contributor to the Digger Man Blog Robert Carlsson shared this photo from another page which shows some rather dangerous working practice going on. Take a look and hold your head in your hands at the stupidity! 15094265_1832104477001700_6493237188466194580_n Till next week, have a great weekend and see you back on the Digger Man Blog on Monday.
