Digger’s weekly social media round up #23

If there is ever a topic that gets people talking on the Digger Man Blog Facebook page, its man’s best friend, those furry creatures that spend their days in the cab with their proud owner’s. This week it was the turn of Bryn Jones to introduce us to his stunning new boy “Dave” who has been spending the week jumping between a John Deere tractor and a Takeuchi mini digger. Dave has clearly taken the page by storm attracting over 552 likes, 37 comments and the post has been shared 39 times! There was even a shout out to rename the group as the Dogger Man Blog but I think that could get confused with another more shady activity! If you have not caught up with Dave yet, take a look at Bryn’s latest post by clicking on this link. 15338598_1782818978636077_4735243776424147857_n Its human nature to laugh at other people’s misfortunes and it’s something us Brits seem very adept at. On sites these days if somebody gets stuck in a piece of kit the first thing most people do now is reach for their phones to catch the moment on camera. Moments like this one captured by John Power who spotted this JCB telehandler which had back into a trench which was hidden by a large puddle of water. Check out the post and the resulting “banter” here. 15420922_10211202700122908_4742792078772147997_n Talking of machines in trouble, Steve Rush shared a series of photos from another page featuring the recovery of a Komatsu excavator that had apparently partially fell down a well hole. The machine had broken down possibly due to water ingress and had to be pulled out by a large ex-military recovery wagon. You can check out the post here. 15355793_10210708981454518_375296426448552099_n Digger Man Blog regular Matthew Johnson posted a photo this week of him working late with his Diga-Bara forward tipping dumper. The Diga-Bara concept is like all good idea a simple one and although I’ve seen these bits of kit slated on here before, they are without doubt a handy tool in the right application and its really surprising just how much material you can shift with one on your own, cutting out the need to hire in a dedicated dumper and driver, I have always been happy with my one and its proven useful over the years. Catch up with this thread here. 15284158_10154760867388088_8229436091683032675_n Nigel Taylor has taken delivery of his new Volvo EC220E L this week which he operates for Devon based BT Jenkins. The machine replaces his outgoing Volvo EC160D model. The company has a great reputation for top quality kit and top class operators who really look after the machines. So far it looks as if Nigel is very happy with his new mount! Check out the thread here. 15284911_10211065549664209_8211079499240822687_n It’s always a delight to look back at photos of plant from the often perceived “good old days” and this week we had a flurry of photos from the archives of group member Alex Gould who posted shots from his first job operating plant down in Portland, Dorset where he was operating kit belonging to Alex Sims. There are some real classics in this collection which you can check out here. 15349545_1020881704690309_6350920345190757461_n Finally in this week’s highlights round up we have a series of photos from Wyn Jones featuring a Cat classic in the shape of a first series 428 backhoe loader. These machines were the first BHL’s to be built by Caterpillar and they were made here in the UK at the spiritual home in Desford, Leicestershire. Take a look at this well preserved machine by clicking on the link here. 15403880_1301575776582325_2002799508781942797_o Have a great weekend and we will see you back on the Digger Man Blog next week.
