Digger’s weekly social media round up #27

Regular Digger Man Blog contributor and former Case-Poclain demonstrator Martin Bourbonneux posted another one of his interesting posts this week featuring shots of a Contract Journal test drive comparison report from back in 1989, which saw the team operating and comparing the performance between the outgoing Case Poclain 90B model and the new at the time 1088 model. If you missed it why not check out the thread here. Mark Montgomery posted a series of photos featuring a Cat 938C tracked loading shovel that he is operating on a site in London for McGee. The 938C is a fairly rare machine and this one looks like it’s recently received a fresh coat of paint. Those in the know suggest they are a cracking little tool though and it’s always a delight to see one in the right hands. Check out the post by clicking on this link. It was a case of out with the old and in with the new this week as Lee Elliott posted photos of his outgoing JCB JS130 and his upgrade to a tidy secondhand JCB JS130. The post prompted a flurry of comments from members who wanted to voice their opinions. Why not take a look here and join the debate. The Executive Hire Show (EHS 2017) took place earlier this week at its spiritual home of the Ricoh Arena in Coventry and a decent number of our Facebook group members made the trip to see what’s new in the small plant hire and tools industry. Among them was David Cordier who was on something of a whirlwind tour of the shows, having already travelled from his home in Canterbury to attend the Doe Show in Essex in the morning too! David kindly posted photos of the all new Kubota KX27-4 which is the company’s new 2.7 tonne conventional swing mini excavator and was getting its UK premiere at the EHS. Check out the post here. Mark Collins posted an early morning start up shot from the seat of his Caterpillar 637 motor scraper, featuring the iconic plume of black smoke that has become synonymous with machines from that era. There was no Tier 4 Final emissions malarkey back in those days! Take a look at the post here. It can be a lonely job being a plant operator and you can often find yourself a long way away from the welfare facilities. I’m sure we can all relate to this shot that Will Cairns took of his workmate taking a wee comfort break beside his Komatsu dozer! At the end of the day when you have to go, you have to go! Check out the rest of Will shots in this post by clicking the link. And finally in this week’s highlight round up we have a post from Travis Tobin which he shared from one of the many other plant pages on Facebook that have featured this footage. The video shows a guy on a Volvo mini excavator having to limbo his way out of a building to avoid hitting his cab on a lintel above the entrance. It’s heart stopping stuff as he squeezes under with hardly any room to spare, does he make it? Check out the full video here. Have a great weekend and we will see you back on the Digger Man Blog next week.
