Digger’s weekly social media round up #2

Earlier this week on our Facebook page David Norton posted an “in the cab” photo entitled “Lagoon time again with the Komatsu PC340 Sat Nav on”. The shot shows the Leica GPS system display screen (other makes are available) the like of which are now becoming increasingly popular on job sites all over the world. Are you currently running one of these systems? Why not join the debate by clicking on this link. 13606486_10210102798190237_1678895654478341695_n Our editor Mr Earthmovers himself, the one and only Graham Black, always enjoys a good debate and on Tuesday he posed the following question: One thing out of many thousands that the UK Government will have to decide over the next couple of years is our own standards for construction machinery. I guess the issue at the top of the list is emissions standards. The knee jerk reaction will probably be to scrap the whole Stage 3B/Stage 4/Stage 5 thing, but that will leave us with relatively low tech kit more suitable for Africa, which could not be sold in Europe as used machines. What changes would you make? Give us your thoughts on the topic by visiting the post here.  27174_371903151084_712136084_4843215_7713468_n Dan Matthewson from Canada popped a series of photos of a rare surviving Hymac 1080 hydraulic excavator that he discovered recently for sale in British Columbia in Canada. Those of us with an interest in the once famous British manufacturer were aware of this rare machines existence as its one of only 100 models of the type that were ever built. Does anyone know if there are any other survivors of the model worldwide, view the photos and join the debate here. 13690765_1187215987989196_3230247122765452009_n We re-tweeted a tweet on our Digger Man Blog Twitter page which had originally been posted by Steve Edwards who works for dealership Watling JCB. Steve had been attending a Hydradig day at JCB’s World Headquarters in Rocester, where he had witnessed first-hand the speed of the new Hydradig machine when compared to a competitive wheeled excavator in a race style competition. What do you think about this kind of competition, watch the video and gives us your thoughts by clicking on this link. IMG_0408 I have to be honest in all the years I’ve been around plant I have hardly ever heard a bad word about Takeuchi mini excavators which are usually regarded as the ultimate in reliability and smoothness of operation. It came as a surprise then having posted a series of photos featuring some of the red and grey Japanese machines which I have operated over the years that a lone voice amongst all the positive commenters was not too impressed with them. What has been your experience with the brand? Have your say by clicking on the link here. DSC_0065 Look out for more DMB social media highlights in next Fridays round-up.
