Digger’s weekly social media round up #32

Australian reader and contributor Martyn Matenga made a welcome return to posting on the blogs Facebook page this week with a series of photos featuring machines he has worked on during his career previously and currently. One of my favourites was this shot of a Liebherr R 996 at work at the Griffin coal mine. Check out some of Martyn’s other photos here. It must be a case of mixed emotions for machine operator and blog reader Andy Channon as he prepares to rip apart a once graceful giant of the skies in the form of a decommissioned Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet. But that is exactly what he was about to do earlier this week and he kindly posted a photo of it for us all to see. If you missed the post catch up with it here.  Since its inception in 2008 as the Digger Blog on Contract Journals website, we have featured many readers digger related holiday snaps over the years. In more recent times as the Digger Man Blog we don’t receive so many as people now tend to just post them on Facebook, where they end up getting buried forever. This week Kevin Evans posted some photos he took during the construction of Phu Quoc International Airport in Vietnam which featured a 21 tonne Hyundai Dash-7 rubber duck. Check out the rest of Kevin’s shots by following this link.   How about this for a great photo, which has been kindly posted by another regular contributor Fred Bakker. The shot shows a very early restored example of a Norwegian built Moxy D16 articulated dumptruck, with the latest variant behind it sporting the Doosan brand livery. Check out the comments here. My esteemed colleague at Earthmovers David Wylie, has recently returned from a skiing holiday on the Zell am See ski slopes in Austria and while the Scottish based action man was out there he manged to get some cracking shots of the snow dozers in action. You can check out the rest of David’s photos by clicking on this link. Earlier this week a couple of photos were posted of an HE Services machine that had become bogged down in St Austell in Cornwall. In a surprising development the Chairman and founder of the company, none other than Mr Hugh Edeleanu, went down to direct operations and as you will see from this footage posted by Pam Durey, was not afraid to get his hands dirty! Top man Hugh and all credit to you for getting involved.
Finally this week, I don’t very often blow my own trumpet despite what some may say! But it was pointed out to me this week that it’s actually four years since I joined the team at Earthmovers Magazine. I still can’t believe it sometimes and the time has gone so quick, but time does when you are enjoying yourself as they say. I would just like to thank Graham Black for giving me the opportunity in the first place and for all his support and advice along the way. I would also like to thank the vast majority of readers who are enjoying what I am doing within the magazine and thanks for all your messages of support and also the dealers and private companies that have worked with me too. Here’s to the next 4 years! Check out Graham's post here.
