Dynamic Doosans
Doosan presented an impressive line-up of 30 different machines at the event and making a first appearance at Quarry Days was the all-new 30-tonne class DA30-7 articulated dumptruck, and an all-new material handler the DX250WMH-5, which tips the scales at around 25-tonnes depending on specification. There was also new Stage V compliant mini excavators, DX27z, DX35z, DX63-3 and DX85R-3, but perhaps the most significant new products on display were the first three models in the manufacturers Dash-7 hydraulic excavator line up, the 30-tonne class DX300LC-7, 35-tonne DX350LC-7 and the 40-tonne class DX380LC-7.
At first glance one could be mistaken for thinking the new models have simply undergone some minor decal changes and the installation of a Stage V engine, but on closer inspection I discovered that there is a lot more going on under the skin of these Korean built machines.
As I was to discover later, there have been significant improvements made to the hydraulic system on the Dash-7 range. To achieve the best operating results and improved fuel economy Doosan has introduced its D-ECOPOWER technology which utilizes an electronic pressure-controlled pump within a closed centre hydraulic system, which the manufacturer says can improve productivity by up to 26% and up to 12% in fuel consumption reduction.
Hydraulic technology continues to advance at a fast pace as we have seen with other manufacturers recent launches. According to Doosan its D-ECOPOWER system deploys nine sensors to detect the amount of hydraulic oil required for any specific task, this system apparently senses how much oil is required for the job in hand rather than continuously forcing through a fixed amount of oil, further improving efficiency. In layman’s terms the SPC (Smart Power Control) system will recognize the need of flow and power, and will automatically set the power and torque required while also adjusting the pump to suit.
The hydraulic pump and valve blocks are blue chip components from the Bosch Rexroth stable and feature increased main valve exits and larger bore pipework, in conjunction with much larger spools help to avoid back pressure, which in turn helps to lower fuel consumption.
