EAG get a Grip with Engcon

EAG Entreprenad AB was founded in 1989 when Nisse Andersson's Åkeri merged with BG Erikssons Gräv, with both companies having previously had a long history in the industry of some 40 and 25 years respectively.

As its Sweden, it goes without saying that you are generally required to have a tiltrotator fitted to your excavator as part of the terms of hire and on this job being conducted by Östersunds Kommun the local municipality or council as we would know it, that is definitely the case.

Its also a requirement that your tiltrotator is fitted with a gripper, either fixed or the increasingly popular detachable “cassette” style version. According to Engcon’s Nils Edwards the Product Ambassador for Norway, in Sweden now, 90% of tiltrotators are sold with a gripper, in Denmark its 75%, and yet incredibly in Norway the figure is just 10%, “There is still some educating to be done in Norway at the moment” said Nils.

Operator of EAG’s Volvo EC140E L Fredrik Andersson has worked for them for 3.5 years and is a big fan of the gripper saying, “Having a gripper on my Engcon EC219 cuts down on men that are needed on the ground, it’s a bit of a no brainer, I really like it, especially when I am working alone and need to move things around, in the cold harsh Swedish winter it saves me having to get out of the cab, which can only be a good thing!”

Also, at work on this job was EAG’s Volvo EC250E L which was working with its tiltrotator off and using a fixed bucket for excavating through some tough rock. Something else you never see in Sweden is the traditional site dumper that we have depended on for many years in the UK, instead the Swedes tend to use a wheeled loader to shift material around, on this job Östersunds Kommun had deployed their Volvo L60H to tackle the task.
