Engcon shows off its latest developments at Bauma

The Engcon stand at Bauma is always nicely positioned along the main thoroughfare, between the Liebherr stand and the main Caterpillar stand in Hall B6. In such a prime spot, the stand always attracts a lot of attention, and as I am such a staunch supporter of the systems, I was keen to catch up with the team to find out what’s new in the Engcon arsenal. One of the more regular comments I hear from those with a more negative view on tiltrotators in the UK, is the potential vulnerability of the tilt ram cylinders. According to Engcon’s Marketing Manager Sten Stromgren, in Sweden operators are used to working with the cylinders, and realise the benefits in terms of power, less weight, and a lower build height, but in some markets, customers have requested a ram-less system, which Engcon have now delivered, with its new EC-ZL series which consists of 4 models, EC10ZL, EC15ZL, EC20ZL & EC30ZL. 050 As a UK operator myself, I can see the benefits of not having the rams, as we do tend to work in deeper and narrower trenches than I witnessed during my visit to Sweden last year. We also do a lot of deep drainage work inside trench boxes, which I think would be difficult with conventional cylinders on a tiltrotator. This new set up, whilst higher in build height, offers more compact dimensions, and a far greater angle of tilt up to an impressive 180o. 265 Also on display at Bauma, was Engcon’s next generation hydraulic quick hitch, the EC-Oil system which facilitates faster hydraulic tool changes, saving the end user money on the demanding jobsites we all work on today. The quick hitch is available in several sizes, and allows rapid, secure changes of hydraulic tools, without the operator needing to leave the cab. 053 On the demonstration plot, the operator displayed the wide variety of attachments that can be fitted to the machine quickly and effortlessly with just a click of a switch inside the cab.   The EC-Oil allows the operator to use the exact tool combination needed for each task, rather than just making do with an unsuitable tool, due to the fact that the operator doesn’t want to remove and reconnect pipes. 051 It’s a very interesting time on the tiltrotator and quick fit hydraulic systems front in the UK at the moment, with more and more people catching on to the idea and realizing the benefits of these time saving devices, I expect a bright future for them here. We thank Sten Stromgren and the team at Engcon, for their kind hospitality on the stand.
