Engcon's Big Day takes on the weather and comes out a winner

After much deliberation, looking outside and checking the road conditions online, I finally took the decision to make the trip up the M5 to the much anticipated Engcon Big Dig Day, which took place on Saturday 3rd March in the grounds of the Valley Plant Training facility in Ashchurch, Tewkesbury. I rightly or wrongly had thought that not many people would turn, up given the extreme cold and travel issues, but I could not have been more wrong and as I write this, it is my understanding that over 60 plant industry customers and potential customers made the trip to see what all the fuss is about when it comes to tiltrotators. Engcon UK Ltd’s Managing Director Robert Hunt said, “This event has been a while in the planning and we were determined that it would go ahead despite the weather!” “Could you imagine us calling it off with just six inches of snow on the ground, our colleagues in Sweden would laugh at us” said Robert jokingly. There was a real buzz around the site and everyone I spoke to on the day was ultra-positive about the benefits of running a tiltrotator, with many of them actually trying one out for the very first time. In some cases, the hardest thing to do was getting them out of the seat so someone else could get hands on! There were plenty of options for people to try, from the entry level unit EC02 fitted on the Kubota U25-3@ pictured above, to the new Sany SY35U with EC204 and Engcon’s DC2 control system. Owner/operator Owen Mays played a big part in the set up and assisting fellow operators on the day, the passionate Takeuchi man had his TB240 on display sporting a EC206 tiltrotator which he is keen to put to work in anger next week! Fellow owner/operator Rob Bool from Somerset also loaned his newly acquired Kobelco SK30 mini excavator out for the day. The machine is fitted with an EC204 and he says having a tiltrotator on both his machines has become an essential part of his arsenal, which just confirms the saying, that once you’ve had one, there is no going back to the rigid bucket set ups from years gone by! JCB was well represented too, with the 110W Hydradig attracting a lot of attention and being used to run variety of Engcon attachments throughout the day. JCB also had their plant rental sector offering the JS131LC on display, this unit and the Hydradig are both run by the Doncaster based CTA Training School and were originally supplied by Yorkshire based dealership TC Harrison. Visitors on the day were putting the Engcon selector grab to the test. Exac-One who are also Engcon dealers displayed a Kubota KX57-4 which was running a wide variety of attachments from the Exac-One portfolio of products. This event was a real success and against all the odds drew in a significant number of visitors who were all keen and enthusiastic to find out more about the product and just what they can do for their businesses. It was great to meet so many friendly people who had taken the effort to turn out in the bitterly cold conditions and most I spoke too, couldn’t wait for the next one, which I am sure the team at Engcon UK Ltd will be planning soon.
