Finning invests £200k in advanced Cat® engine testing technology
More than £200,000 is being invested in advanced engine testing technology by Finning UK & Ireland, the world’s largest dealer of Cat® equipment, parts and aftermarket services.
Dynamometer engine testing solutions are being upgraded across the Finning network as part of an improvement programme aimed at expanding the range of engineering support available to customers. The latest test cell development at the company’s headquarters in Cannock, Staffordshire, has included a new £160,000 high-power dynamometer to certify the build quality, strength and power of engines being overhauled at our Component Rebuild Centre departments.
Finning specialises in Cat equipment offering new and used equipment, repair, replace and rebuild options as well as an extensive after-sales and support service. This includes technical support for customers taking advantage of Cat Self Service Repair Options. Professional-grade dynamometer engine testing equipment is made available as part of this service to ensure customer self-rebuild engines are safe and operational.
Dave Carter, Head of Rebuild, Repair and Response at Finning UK & Ireland, said: “Dyno testing allows for the optimisation of engine performance, ensuring the most efficient settings are in force for better fuel economy, while collecting essential data on power, torque and force.
“Dyno testing is also a diagnostic tool, helping to fine tune the engine by delivering critical insights into reliability and how it meets specification. Our quality control standards are extremely high. Maximising uptime and extending the life and performance of equipment is at the heart of the services we provide. Dyno testing is a crucial stage in the Finning Cat Certified rebuild process and this is also extended to customers taking advantage of the self-service programme too.”
Dyno testing is carried out in a controlled environment to provide engine performance validation. It ensures equipment can handle real-world applications and operates safely under maximum loads.
The equipment installed at Cannock is part of a new Rebuild Centre of Excellence workshop currently under construction to accommodate growing demand for machine rebuilds and major reconditions. The investment in the 1,230sqm unit comes as more customers choose Cat Certified Rebuilds under the Finning ‘Rebuilt and Ready to Go’ programme, giving customers immediate access to Cat machines that have been fully rebuilt to deliver like-new performance.
Dave said: “Performance testing makes sure what is delivered in the workshop is also delivered out in the field. We are committed to a rebuild process that results in machines that perform in their working environment. Our investment in dyno testing helps to ensure a like-new machine that is ready to work.”
