Finning secures £4m machine investment to provide tech-enhanced machinery
Finning UK & Ireland, the world’s largest dealer of Cat machines, parts and services, is supplying Stevens Equipment Rental Ltd (SER) with 17 new Cat machines to help it meet growing demand for its rental offering across the UK.
Such a significant investment underscores the longstanding partnership between the two firms. For over 20 years, Finning has supported SER not only with machinery supply but with extensive equipment expertise, aftersales support, and consultancy on fleet expansion, digital transformation, and more sustainable operations.
The investment includes 3 x Cat 966 Wheel Loaders,1 x Cat 972 Wheel Loader, 2 x Cat D5 Bulldozers, 6 x Cat D6 Bulldozers, 3 x Cat CS13 Soil Compactors, 1 x Cat CS16 Soil Compactor, and 1 x Cat 320 Excavator.
Andrew Stevens, Managing Director of Stevens Equipment Rental, commented: “We identified a need to bridge a gap in the market for bulldozer and soil compactor hire, particularly as the construction sector begins to regain stability and confidence. With more certainty returning to the market, particularly following the recent spending review, we knew it was the right time to invest in robust, efficient, and technologically advanced equipment that will allow us to support our customers in delivering critical infrastructure projects across the country.
“We’ve worked with Finning for over two decades and trust their deep understanding of our fleet and the demands of our customers. Their expertise has been key in helping us to ensure that this investment not only strengthens our ability to deliver reliable, high-performance equipment but also reinforces our commitment to offering innovative and future-ready plant hire solutions across the UK.”
To further enhance the machinery’s operational efficiency and reduce fuel consumption, Finning & SER partnered with SITECH UK & Ireland to fit the Cat machines with Trimble® Earthworks Grade Control Technology. This includes the Cat 320 Excavator, D5 and D6 Dozers, and the CS13 Soil Compactors.
Beyond the machines themselves, Stevens Equipment Rentals investment is supported by Finning through a comprehensive Cat Customer Value Agreement (CVA), ensuring proactive maintenance, expert servicing, remote monitoring, and protection of uptime. The machinery is also covered by Cat Equipment Protection Plans (EPP), offering warranty and peace of mind to SER’s operations team.
Neil Baxter, Key Account Manager at Finning UK & Ireland, commented: “When our long-term partner, Stevens Equipment Rental, approached us to support them in delivering a more efficient, safe, and reliable solution. To achieve this, we worked tirelessly to provide a comprehensive service and warranties to safeguard SER’s significant investment long into the future.
“In addition to this, by fitting SITECH’s Trimble® Earthworks Grade Control Technology into the machinery, the team at Stevens Equipment Rental can also be assured that they will be passing on to their customers the benefits in reducing fuel use, operating with greater efficiencies and ensuring enhanced safety for users.”
With eight out of fifteen new machines already on site and the remainder due by the end of this year, Stevens Equipment Rental’s latest fleet expansion reflects its long-term approach to investing in smart, efficient equipment. The move reinforces the company’s focus on integrating the latest technology while reducing environmental impact without compromising on performance or reliability.
This investment aligns with Finning UK & Ireland’s commitment to providing its customers with comprehensive support on a national scale while also providing technologies that are not only reliable but also help to address some of the most complex challenges of the energy transition.
