GKD RCI kit for Caulfield's new Volvos

Caulfield Contractors has chosen GKD Rated Capacity Indicators for 22 new Volvo excavators headed for Smart Motorway projects. The Essex-based company forms part of the Link Group of companies, alongside Caulfield Civil Engineering, and specialises in drainage, utilities, and tunnelling works. The company’s most recent highways projects have included providing drainage for many of the ‘Smart Motorway’ schemes that are currently under construction around the country.

Caulfield Contractors have recently added 22 brand new Volvo excavators to its fleet, which comprise 10 ECR235EL crawler excavators, four short-swing radius ECR145EL crawler excavators, four wheeled EWR150EL excavators and four short-swing radius ECR88 crawler excavators, purchased from Volvo dealership, SMT GB.

All the new Volvo machines have been fitted with GKD Technologies 2RCi height, slew and load rated capacity indicators, with additional safety beacons. The system may be fitted to single or two-piece boom machines and is designed to satisfy regulation regarding use of excavators as a crane. In addition to the rated capacity indicator functions, the 2RCI provides added benefits to the user, with digging depth indication, which helps to reduce over-digging of the trenches or can assist in the placement of lifted items. Height limiting also allows the operator to operate in restricted headroom areas.

Caulfield Contractors’ new fleet of excavators join an existing fleet of six Volvo excavators, which are also fitted with GKD’s 2RCi system – taking the total fleet of GKD fitted machines to 28.
