Heritage Quarry Group (North) Ltd makes major investment with 90t Hitachi excavator

Heritage Quarry Group (North) Ltd are an independent business passionate about the supply of premium, natural, British stone products – consisting of three separate sites: Rollright Quarry, Daglingworth Quarry and Great Tew Quarry, but have recently opened a new site, Greenfield Quarry, based in Skillington.

Heritage Quarry Group (North) has made one of their largest investments to date, setting a clear statement of intent for the company’s future.

With power, precision, and performance at the forefront of the decision, Steve Johnson, who oversees the northern site, knew that selecting the right machinery would be critical to meeting the demands of their business. Confident in what was required, Steve set his sights on the Hitachi ZX890LCR‑7 BER and with the support of the team at Hitachi Construction Machinery UK, they made it happen.

Speaking about theZX890LCR-7, Steve explained that its power and performance have exceeded his expectations. He highlighted the incredible breakout force and impressive fuel economy, commenting, “It feels like you could stop the world turning when it’s digging.”

The machine supplied is a ZX890LCR‑7 BER specification, fitted with a 7.1m BER boom and a 2.95m BER dipper. This configuration has been engineered to deliver maximum strength and exceptional breakout force for the most demanding quarry applications. Additional performance has been enhanced using HSM bucket, with a specially designed ripper tooth and rock bucket, carefully manufactured to maximise productivity and durability on site.

The Hitachi ZX890LCR‑7 BER is a high‑performance 90‑tonne large crawler excavator (Stage V), designed specifically for quarrying and heavy construction projects. It features a powerful 382 kW (512–519 hp) Isuzu engine, up to 5m³ bucket capacity, and high‑pressure HIOS V hydraulic systems. The machine prioritises productivity, fuel efficiency, and operator comfort, supported by a reinforced and robust structure.

Steve and Di Johnson bring many years of experience within the quarrying industry. After reconnecting with a previous owner, discussions began around the opportunity to establish another quarry further north, building on the success of their southern sister company. Following productive conversations, that vision soon became reality, and despite only launching their northern project in September 2025, the progress made in such a short timeframe has already been impressive.

Hitachi Construction Machinery UK are extremely excited to develop this partnership with Heritage Quarry Group (North) Ltd and look forward to supporting the business as it continues to grow.
