Hitachi and Balfour Beatty at COP26

Hitachi Construction Machinery UK (HCMUK) recently worked in partnership with Balfour Beatty as part of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), with Hitachi Ltd being a Principal Partner.

The COP26 summit has brought parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Balfour Beatty has been showcasing a number of innovative ways in which it can reduce its carbon footprint at its Sustainable Evolution Showcase event, based at Shotts in Glasgow, with Hitachi Construction Machinery UK providing a highly specified Hitachi ZX135US-7, which will help the construction company move towards its goal of a zero-carbon construction site.

The ZX135US-7 that has been supplied is no ordinary machinery. In addition to the latest Stage 5 engine and a HIOS V System installed as standard on the machine, it was also equipped with semi-automated Leica Geosystems machine control, Xwatch 5 height and slew limiter, Hitachi’s real-time CT fleet link telematics system, and fuelled with Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel; demonstrating that HCMUK can help to pave the way for sustainability today.

David Roberts, CEO at HCMUK said, “All of these separate items combined reduce emissions while the machine is running, and increase productivity and efficiency to minimise running time, which results in a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of a job site.”

Globally, Hitachi Construction Machinery UK is also developing zero emission battery-powered machines and alternative fuelled products with ultra-low emissions, to ensure that the industry can meet the net zero targets being set out by many nations around the world.
