JCB fly’s the flag at Conexpo with launch of new skid steer concept

The all American style skid steer first came into being in a small town in Minnesota, but since those early days the concept has evolved and developed into a machine that is extremely versatile across a wide range of industries from agricultural to construction and landscaping to utility work. Coupled with a never ending range of attachments the machines are something of a Swiss Army knife in any fleet. There are at least 14 manufacturers making tracked and wheeled variants and all of them are competing in the hotly contested US market. It’s great to see then, that UK based JCB are leading the way in developing this product with the launch of the new Teleskid, a revolutionary new product that can reach 60% further forward than any other skid steer on the market and - in an industry first - it is the only skid steer in the world that can dig below its chassis to an unparalleled depth of around one metre. In addition, this innovative new machine can reach 8% higher than any other skid steer. Talking about the new machine during its global launch at Conexpo JCB Chief Innovation and Growth Officer Tim Burnhope said “Through innovation this machine will surpass the expectations of our customers as the world’s first skid steer and compact track loader with a telescopic boom. The JCB Teleskid can reach further forward and lift higher and dig deeper than any other skid steer.” According to JCB the Teleskid has an unrivalled forward reach of 2.4 metres – making it 60% better than the nearest competitive machine.  With a lift height of four metres, the JCB Teleskid can reach 8% higher than any other skid steer in the world. The JCB Teleskid which will be produced at the company’s facility in Savannah, Georgia, will feature a fully enclosed cab that is 33 per cent larger than industry average, and JCB’s myCHOICE software, allowing control responsiveness and joystick sensitivity to be tailored to suit operator preferences. A 74hp/55kW JCB Ecomax engine will provide high torque at a low RPM and ensure compliance with Tier 4 Final / Stage IIIB emissions standards.
Tracked and wheeled Teleskid models will be sold in North America, while perhaps surprisingly European markets will only be offered the wheeled variant.
