Life on the Rails is a Breeze with Lännen
Pirkkala based Taratest Oy, is a Finnish company who specialise in geotechnics and environmental research. The need for rock and soil quality research is constantly increasing in Finland and Taratest Oy are one of the most well-known players in this field. The contractor’s regular fleet of equipment consists primarily of various track-mounted drilling rigs.
They have also been long time users of Lännen multpurpose machines in its various operations, and most recently had a requirement for a machine capable of working on the railways, and for this they opted to purchase the very latest Stage V engine powered 8800M with full rail mounting equipment.

The new machine is the base carrier for the drill attachment manufactured by Geomachine Oy and the Lännen has proven to be the ideal machine for working with this attachment, with its high rail travel speed, good reach and overall stability, which is proving to be invaluable.
The machine is also capable of being operated by remote control from outside of the cabin, allowing the operator to be able to work the machine and drill from ground level for improved visibility of the drilling operation, and in true Nordic style with less labour, which is not only safer, but more cost effective.

All three models in the Lännen M Series range feature the latest Agco Power Stage V engine, with EU emissions regulations being met thanks to the installation of a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The smaller 8600M and 8700M models have a power rating of 108kw, while the top of the range 8800M is rated at 127kw.
This machine excelled on a drilling site on the Tahkoluoto track close to the town of Pori. At this location the track is built on a causeway which runs across a bay, gaining access to the track from the sides is virtually impossible. But the 8800M Rail model simply mounts the rails at the nearest level crossing and travels to the drilling site with no problems at all.
The machine appears to have been a great investment for the Taratest business. Checkout this promotional video from Lännen to see the machine in action.
