Machinery Open House in Finland

I attended this event in 2017 and it really is a brilliant idea, the dealers take part by having machines on display at their own yards, thus eliminating the costs involved in transporting them to a showground or digging venue, which all makes perfect sense really. Of course, this only works so well due to the fact that most of the dealer’s yards are located relatively close together in an industrial area, with many easily walked to, if not just a short car ride away. Finnish Komatsu dealer Suomen Rakennuskone Oy had a massive number of machines on display, many of them already sold and sporting the owners livery. There was also the chance to get “hands on with some of the machines, always popular with visitors, as was the food that was provided too on chilly April days. This event is very much a family affair with attendees actively encouraged to bring their children along, something that just might inspire these youngsters to take up a career in the construction plant and machinery game when they leave school, this young lad was making himself at home on a Volvo DD25B double drum vibratory roller at Volvo Finland’s depot. There were also operator skills challenges to take part in at the Volvo premises, including this one featuring a compact wheeled loader. Hitachi Construction Equipment main dealer for Finland Rotator Oy, had an impressive line up of machines including what was probably one of the largest excavators on display at the entire event, a Hitachi ZX890LCH-6 which was partnered with a Bell B50E articulated hauler which is also a product line in the Rotator Oy portfolio. A new Lannen multi-function backhoe loader was spotted, owned by soil testing and drilling business Taratest, which featured a drilling attachment on the back end, further demonstrating the versatility of these highly specified Finnish built machines. At the long-established Caterpillar dealer’s Witraktor there was plenty of opportunity for customers to spend some “stick time” in the new 307.5 one of the newly launched Next Gen mini excavator range, which feature the unique factory fitted joystick steering and cruise control all as standard. There was also a chance to spend some time on the larger Next Generation Caterpillar excavators, machines which are full of technological features and the innovative touch screen monitors. This example was the new 323 model. Overall the event broke all previous records with more than 50 organizations taking part for the first time. There were several hundred different machinery and transport outfits involved in the event and it was estimated that over 15,000 visitors attended over the two days.
