Machines Rusting in Peace

Regular readers of this blog at its former host may recall our post on the massive breakers yard run by T. Casquero located in Benavente, North West of Madrid which was visited by Allistair Cooke some years ago when they were looking for used tractor cabs to take home to replace some rust ravaged ones in Ireland. They hold massive stocks of old and newer machines at their purpose built premises which cover an area of some 230,000 square metres which is an impressive sight to see. This photo displays just a small section of the relics that are stored here. 700x0_1325518111_spain6 Not quite on the same scale but equally impressive is James Wightmans breakers yard in Ballynahinch in Northern Ireland. This yard is the final resting place for over 500 items of kit, with many still running machines arriving all the time. Some are saved to be lovingly restored to full working order but the bulk of them are broken down as donor machines to keep other similar models alive out in the field. I have not been to either of these places, but it’s a trip which is high on my “to do” list for the future and I’m sure I would enjoy a day walking around this place in an eerie kind of silence. Chris produced this video using drone footage.
Chris also discovered an old Hymac 580D here that I used to operate in the Southampton and surrounding areas for 9 years in my younger days. I am not sure what her fate will be but at the moment she is still operational and the guys there fired her up and put her to work for this other video by Chris.
The Digger Man Blog would like to thank Chris for sharing these videos with us.
