Molson Group companies face administration
Molson Group and subsidiary Molson Equipment Services have filed formal notices with the High Court indicating potential administration proceedings for one of the UK's largest independent construction equipment distributors.
Ross Connock, Tom Crookham and Vesela Romagnoli have been appointed as Joint Administrators of Molson Equipment Services Ltd, Capital Equipment Finance Ltd, Aggregate Processing Solutions Ltd and Molson Scotland Ltd. They will be responsible for managing the companies' affairs, business and property.
The development follows the publication of financial results for the year ending September 2024, which showed that the Bristol-based group recorded a pre-tax loss of £10.3 million despite generating turnover of £333 million.
The news comes just one month after Molson Scotland was appointed Bell Equipment dealer for their ADT range. Almost 19 years ago, an earlier restructuring saw the former Molson Holdings enter administration in November 2007. The business subsequently re-emerged as Molson Group, led by co-founders Robin Powell and Jonathan Wilson. Since then, Molson Group has operated from 16 depots across the UK, employing approximately 600 people and supporting a network of more than 95 mobile service engineers. The group represents a wide range of construction equipment manufacturers, including Kobelco, Hyundai Construction Equipment, Sennebogen, Thwaites, Husqvarna and Merlo.
The company expanded rapidly after securing the Hyundai distribution franchise for southern England and Wales, followed by a series of acquisitions and private equity investment from BGF in 2018 and 2019. The funding supported further expansion of its national depot network, with group revenue exceeding £200 million by 2019. Molson subsequently established itself as a major supplier to the plant hire, construction, demolition and recycling sectors.
