Caterpillar has launched a refreshed range of more fuel efficient Material Handlers: the 24.5-tonne MH3022, 26.8-tonne MH3024, 29.2-tonne MH3026 and new 40-tonne class MH3040.

The 145hp MH3022 and 171hp MH3024 are powered by a Stage 5 Cat C4.4 engine. The MH3022 has a maximum reach of 10.3m and a maximum height of 11.7m. The MH3024, meanwhile, reaches out 12m with a maximum height of 13m. The MH3026 and new MH3040 deploy a Stage 5 Cat C7.1 engine making 171hp and 202hp respectively. The MH3026 boasts a maximum reach of 13m and tops out at 14.3m, while the MH3040 has a reach of 15.5m and a maximum height of 17.5m.

Swing torque has been increased by 7% in the case of the MH3024, 20% on the MH3026 and 12% on the MH3040. All models feature a heavy lift mode to increase lifting capacities, plus a fuel-saving SmartBoom which moves up and down without using pump flow, meaning the operator can fully focus on controlling the attachment (grapple, clamshell, bucket or magnet – requires additional generator fitted post-production). Cat has also added a new cab avoidance system, which prevents the operator from getting too close to the cab with their attachment.

The Next Generation cabs feature optional joystick steering (standard on the MH3040), a tilting console on the operator’s left-hand side, and a 10-inch touchscreen with jog dial for navigating controls. Visibility is said to be improved over previous models, as is ease of access to important parts for maintenance, and filter life.
