O&K face shovel look back

Most of the shots in this post are from the Digger Man Blog archives and most were promotional shots from O&K (Orenstein & Koppel) which have been passed on to me. In the first shot we an RH120C sporting the RJB (R. J. Budge) signage. The RH120C was first introduced in 1983. It weighed in at around 245 tonnes and typically carried a 17 cubic yard bull clam style bucket.  It was powered by two Cummins engines each rated at 1,180hp. Next up the RH120C’s bigger brother, the RH200 once again in the colours of RJB mining seen at work somewhere in the North East. The RH200 made its first public appearance at the Bauma trade fair in Munich in 1989, where the giant 512 tonne monster which was fitted with a 34 cubic yard bucket, was a show stopping exhibit on the O&K stand. In this shot we see another RH200 in action. This one is a later model as it bears the new O&K branding which was to be the company’s last change of lettering design before being taken over in the late 1990’s by Terex. Finally in this batch the big daddy in the O&K line up with the mighty RH400. These machines weighed in at a stunning 900 tonnes and were equipped with a mammoth 55 cubic yard bucket. Power came from twin Cummins engines which could push out 3,400hp. Most of these giants went to work at the Syncrude tar sands site in Alberta, Canada, with the first one being delivered in 1997. These days the RH400 model is seen as the Caterpillar 6090. More archive O&K shots to come in future blog posts.
